A Christmas Message From Walter Peek

On a cold but pleasant day about two
weeks before Christmas, I was hurrying down New York's
Fifth Avenue balancing a small mountain of gaily-wrapped
Christmas presents. I accidentally bumped into a similarly
overloaded gentleman and we had a magnificent collision,
with bundles spilling in all directions. As we scrambled
to pick up our treasures, I embarrassedly began to
apologize, but the stranger said, “Don't worry, it was
both our faults.” We shook hands, finished
reloading, wished each other a "Merry Christmas" and went
on our separate ways.
As I continued on my holiday errands I
thought, “That could have turned into an ugly
confrontation, but at this time of year even strangers can
be nice to each other. Isn't it a shame we can't always be
like this?” The city now seemed brighter and full of the
sounds of the season.
A song idea started to form...
When I got home that night, I couldn't
get the idea out of my mind. Long after my wife and
children had gone to bed I couldn't sleep - pieces of the
song kept surging through my head. I finally got up and went into
the bathroom, so as not to disturb my family, and wrote down the words
and music to
“It's Christmas All Over Town.” I finally crawled back between the
sheets around 4:00 am.
Perhaps even today my unknown friend will hear this story and come forward. I'd love to meet him and shake his hand again when we are both unencumbered.
A total stranger inspired me to write my
Christmas song. I would like to offer you, a total
stranger, my album in hopes that it will inspire you to
have a very
Merry Christmas!
